AZ 2000 HPS Combi Mount

The AZ2000 "COMBI" is basically splittable” in two parts with an additional locking system; next to the quick locking system, which is very useful to carry and assemble the mount in the field, we added a further locking system. This is meant for customers who have the mount permanently installed in an observatory. It will ensure a great long-term stability.

You can easily revert the mount into a portable (“splittable”) version simply by removing the locking screws.

The original AZ2000 (see images of the yellow AZ2000 above) was also produced in the special “Antarctica” version, which was able to work at extreme low temperatures of -84°C (-119F). Special mechanical and electronic considerations were necessary in order to design and produce this peculiar mount: from the correct choice of material and sizes to the use of special and very expensive lubricants, wiring and connectors. A special housing was also designed to protect against temperature and ice crystals formation and which needed different levels of seals depending on the effective operational temperature.

This mount is the latest version of the AZ2000, an altazimuth mount based on the mechanics of the GM2000 HPS. The AZ2000 is a very versatile research mount, perfect for scientific activities such as satellite tracking, photometric and astrometric measurements, LiDaR laser applications and so on.

  • Altazimuthal mount
  • Exclusive 10Micron HPS technology with absolute axis-encoders and high performances motor drives;
  • The standard version allows to assembly the optics to only a side of the mount and is supplied with a short counterweight bar. It’s not necessary to exactly counterbalance the weight of the telescope: using counterweiths for about 50% of your payload to get a sucfficient stable configuration. .
  • Due to its altazimuthal design, astrophotography requires a field rotator. With an image field rotator (we recommend the IR90 from Planewave and the Gemini from Optec), "classic" astrophotography with the usual 10 micron precision is also possible.
  • An option is available for a dual telescope configuration (#1452905 AZ 2000 DT Upgrade Kit). Payload capacity of 50 +35 Kg in dual telescope configuration optional

AZ Features

The AZ HPS series are very versatile mounts, in altazimuthal configuration, perfect for scientific activities such as LEO satellite tracking, space debris monitoring, laser communication, high resolution spectroscopy, photometric and astrometric measurements.

They are also suitable for didactic applications, popular science or some amateur astronomy activities like planetary imaging or visual observations. The standard version allows to assembly the optics to only a side of the mount and it’s supplied with a counterweight bar. An option is available for a double telescope configuration in order to have two (or multiple) optical systems on the same mount. Using the same HPS technology, these new mounts derive from the GM HPS series, well known and appreciated all around the world by both professionals and amateurs.
